It is a good day. The boys are home working on their Carney routine, Michon is Snow boarding and we are listening to Bruce Springsteen’s album, The Rising.
It is a great album. I am not much a commercial music guy and have not bought an album in years. I own this one and bought it even though I have Kaza.
It would be great if we could tell the story of faith, live and love the way Bruce Springsteen did about September 13 on this album. Would that be better than songs like “How Could I But Love You?”.

Just a few days before heading out for the Emergent Convention in San Diego. There is still so much to do.

Here are the Lyrics to the song we were listening to:
INTO THE FIRE

The sky was falling and streaked with blood
I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love

You gave your love to see, in fields of red and autumn brown
You gave your love to me and lay your young body down
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need you near, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love

It was dark, too dark to see, you held me in the light you gave
You lay your hand on me
Then walked into the darkness of your smoky grave
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs, into the fire

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love...

On my way to our Tuesday morning men’s breakfast this morning at Victor’s 1959 Cuban Restaurant in Minneapolis this morning I had a little experience that showed me just how hard my heart is and how much I do not have the passions of Jesus.
I listen to NPR most of the time in the car – which is a true sign of being 36, and they mentioned that starting tomorrow they will have another fund drive – this time trying to keep the first day to only 3 hours, like that helps. And I let out a verbal “ahhhhhh” in discuss of having to put up with another horrible plea for money.

Then they went to national coverage of a story of Israel killing a Hamas leader today in retaliation for the death of four Israelis earlier in the week. And I noticed that I did not blink an eye. It was as if it was informational entertainment. Here I was a pastor, and one trying to live in the way of Jesus, and I was upset about having to put up with a fund raiser and not at all bothered by the killing of people in the middle east.

I am doing some writing today, but not on the Week In The Life book, rather, on a response to an article that is part of a Council on Ecclesiology, that I am part off.
One of the other participants, Mark Talbot, a Philosophy professor at Wheaton College and I are in a dialog around how does the church understand revelation and know God.
He is a classic reformer, I am, well, me.

We will have a dialog over two days in Houston.

This is a busy week with the Emergent Convention coming next week in San Diego. I am looking forward to it, but will miss Andrew Jones who will not be there.

Ministry can be so perplexing some times. Tonight I am having dinner with a Gal whose wedding I performed a year and half ago. She is initiating a divorce that is scheduled to finalize their tomorrow. I wonder if she will be interested in my article on revelation?
